This website was created as a focal point for genealogists researching the surnames FONTAINE, FOUNTAIN, LAFONTAINE, LAFOUNTAIN, BIENVENU, WELCOME, PION and SPRING that are descendants of French immigrants that settled in New France (now known as Canada). For researchers seeking information on ancestors that immigrated to American soil, please see links below.

We are amateur genealogists. We are not doing this for money. In fact it costs us far more than anything we receive. However, we don't just give the information away freely. We expect a comparable exchange of information. This is fair and helps keep everyone's cost down.

GENEALOGY BOOKS and PICTURES WANTED!

Current research has been focused in the records of Northern New York. We have made a lot of progress connecting families to Canada. However, there are still a lot more that are more difficult. New York is known as the "black hole" of genealogy. Early records only contain the witnesses, not the names of the parents. So families are difficult to connect.

No extended family reunions yet. Maybe next year?

Remember, pictures of past relatives or gravestones are always welcome. Pictures of past relatives provide a face to all the vital information we are collecting. Gravestones provide additional clues we need to fix any errors.

Useless fact (but interesting) - The three of us are all direct descendants of Pierre Fontaine dit Bienvenu. However, we are descendant of three different sons of Pierre, the only three that produced male lineages to this day!
